昔々むかしむかし、ある所ところにねずみの夫婦ふうふが住すんでいました。

Long, long ago, in a certain place, there lived a mouse and his wife.

二人ふたりには、とてもかわいい娘むすめが一人ひとりいました。

お父とうさんねずみは「うちの娘むすめは、

雲くもは私わたしを隠かくしますから」お父とうさんねずみは雲くもの所ところ

"No, the cloud is stronger than I am. The cloud can hide me."

へ行いきました。雲くもは「私わたしより風かぜのほうが強つよいです。

The father mouse went to the cloud.

風かぜは私わたしを動うごかしますから」と言いいました。

"The wind is stronger than I am," said the cloud. "The wind moves me about."

風かぜは「私わたしより壁かべのほうが強つよいです。

私わたしは壁かべを通とおることが出来できませんから」

と言いいました。最後さいごに、壁かべが言いいました。

"The wall is stronger than I am," said the wind. "I cannot get through a wall."

At last the wall spoke.

「私わたしより強つよいのは、ねずみですよ。

ねずみは私わたしに穴あなを開あけますから」

"The one stronger than me is the mouse. A mouse can gnaw a hole right through me."

お父とうさんねずみはとてもびっくりしました。

The father mouse was very surprised.

「世界せかいで一番いちばん強つよいのは、ねずみだったんですね」

"So the strongest thing in the world was the mouse after all."

娘むすめは隣となりの家いえの若わかいねずみと結婚けっこんして、

いつまでも幸しあわせに暮くらしました。

The daughter married the young mouse next door, and they lived happily ever after.
