Long ago there lived an old man with a big lump on his right cheek.
He was always cheerful, and he loved singing and dancing.
One rainy day he crept into a hollow tree on the mountain to wait out the rain.
When night fell, red and blue ogres gathered, drank sake, and began to dance.
The old man was afraid of the ogres, but the merry singing made him want to dance too.
So he came out and danced right among the ogres.
The ogres were delighted. "Come again tomorrow night," they said.
"As a promise, we shall keep that precious lump of yours."
The ogre took the lump from his cheek so gently that it did not hurt at all.
With the lump gone, the old man was overjoyed.
Next door lived another old man with just such a lump on his left cheek.
Having heard the story, he went to the hollow the next night.
But he danced so badly that the ogres were not amused at all.
"Enough. We shall give back yesterday's lump."
And the ogre stuck the other lump onto his left cheek as well.
With two lumps now, he went home in tears.
Whatever you do, it is the joy you put into it that matters most.
